Now Britain's Paterson gets Don Draper creative role at DDB ChicagoTalking of uber fictional creative director Don Draper, which we just were, such a role has been awarded to a rather more low profile Brit, Ewan Paterson, who moves from Clenmow Hornby Inge to be creative director of DDB Chicago. Paterson has the classic British creative pedigree at BMP DDB (Lego and Volkswagen), Bartle Bogle Hegarty (British Airways and Boddington's) and then his current job executive creative director at WPP-backed CHI where he is credited with Drench's hamster jazz band. DDB Chicago, rather surprisingly considering that DDB is so strongly associated with New York, is DDB's biggest agency but that's where the Anheuser-Busch and McDonald's accounts reside. The agency has recently suffered a number of losses including State Farm auto insurance and Wrigley's and has been searching for a creative director since previous incumbent Paul Tilley committed suicide in 2008. Mr Tilley's death may have had nothing to do with his job at all but it's still fair to say that running the creative department in such a large and pivotal agency will be stressful in the extreme, as any student of Mad Men knows. At the time of writing Paterson hasn't officially confirmed that he's going and it may be that WPP's Sir Martin Sorrell intervenes at the last gasp to prevent rival Omnicom plugging a rather important hole with one of his, strictly speaking Johnny Hornby's, rising talents. 174 reads
